MCAA’S Fastest Trowel on the Block

The Fastest Trowel On The Block promotes workmanship, speed, and craftsmanship in the masonry industry and workforce. Journeyman masons, accompanied by their choice of tender, compete against one another in a high-speed, 20-minute challenge. Only journeymen masons who have the skill, confidence, and courage to face off with the industry's best are invited to compete. This contest proves just how important teamwork is in accomplishing a final product.

Each contestant's goal is to complete as much of a 30-foot-long wall as possible, using 8"x8"x16" CMU and mortar. The contest rewards the winning team for their hard work and dedication. Contestants must have a high degree of workmanship using regulated masonry practices and hand tools.

This contest rewards the country's best mason journeymen for their hard work and dedication to the trade.

PRIZES INCLUDE:

The Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program has developed into a key resource for populating the concrete industry with talented individuals with college degrees. Five universities strategically placed across the country offer four-year degrees in CIM.

Today, there are more than 1,000 graduates of the program and another 500 students currently enrolled. This program is made possible, in large part, by the combined efforts of the national and local concrete industry. The National Steering Committee (NSC) for CIM, in collaboration with local patron groups at all five universities, provides both funding and oversight for the program.

The generosity of our industry partners is the cornerstone of the auction's success. This year’s major donations feature an impressive lineup of heavy equipment, including:

The Face® Companies’ 2025 Golden Trowel® Awards

Be There When the Industry Recognizes the Best Concrete Floors in the World.

The Face® Companies’ 2025 Golden Trowel® Awards will be presented on January 21, 2026, at the World of Concrete in Las Vegas. The Face Companies have given the Golden Trowel for 35 years to contractors who produce the world’s flattest and most level floors.  The Golden Trowel® is a 24-karat gold-plated Marshalltown finishing trowel, mounted on a polished granite block over a walnut base.

Golden Trowel Gold Plates are awarded to the winner in each category. The award categories include how the floor was initially struck off, the floor casting’s width, whether shake-on hardener or steel fibers were used, and other factors that influence flatness and levelness.

Golden Trowel Silver Plates recognize truly outstanding entries that achieved exceptional results but did not dominate the category.

The event will also feature a brief description of each winning project.

The award event is open to all World of Concrete attendees. Registration is not required.

About the Presenter:

Michael H. Weber, CGP, IOM, CSI, has been in the concrete industry for 35+ years. His roles have included sales, training, market development, and operations in executive leadership positions with for-profit companies and national trade associations. In 2006, Weber received Hanley Wood Media’s “10 Most Influential People Award” for the construction industry. Most recently, Weber received the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Building Systems Councils’ 2019 “S.A. Walters Lifetime Achievement Award” for the systems built (concrete, modular, log/timber frame and panelized) industry. He serves as a voting member on four American Concrete Institute (ACI) Standard Committees and is a Trustee for NAHB’s Leading Suppliers Council and Building Systems Councils.
