World of Concrete 2010 returns to the Las Vegas Convention Center, February 2 to 5 and will continue to build upon a reputation as the only annual international commercial construction show for the concrete and masonry industries. Concrete is Remixed with Environment in Mind

Soaring above the Mississippi River just east of downtown Minneapolis is one remarkable concrete job. There on Interstate 35W, the St. Anthony Falls Bridge carries 10 lanes of traffic on box girders borne by massive arching piers, which are supported, in turn, by footings and deep pilings. The bridge, built to replace one that collapsed in 2007, killing 13 people, is constructed almost entirely of concrete embedded with steel reinforcing bars, or rebar. But it is hardly a monolithic structure: the components are made from different concrete mixes, the recipes tweaked, as a chef would, for specific strength and durability requirements and to reduce the impact on the environment. The World of Concrete was introduced in Houston, Texas, in February 1975, with 77 exhibiting companies in 22,000 net square feet of exhibit space. There were 1,550 construction industry professionals in attendance at that first show. In 2009, more than 90,000 registered industry professionals are expected to be in attendance, and the show, now in Las Vegas, Nevada, will feature more than 1,700 exhibiting companies in more than 900,000 square feet of exhibit space.
