CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION AND THE CONCRETE PRODUCER magazine’s Pervious Concrete LIVE! will take place during show hours at World of Concrete 2012 in the Gold Lot, front of North Hall.

Three of the most important topics of contractor interest will be showcased in the Pervious Concrete Live’s demonstration area.

DEMONSTRATION DESCRIPTIONS

Quality Control Testing of Pervious Concrete Demonstration

During scheduled sessions, students from the Concrete Industry Management program at Middle Tennessee State University Pervious Concrete Live will explain the how to use ASTM methods on both hardened and fresh pervious concrete to improve quality. They will conduct the ASTM C 1688 for Unit Weight of Fresh Pervious concrete to demonstrate one method by which contractors and producers can measure uniformity of product delivery. The students will also conduct ASTM C 1701 for Infiltration Rate of Hardened Pervious, a procedure that helps establish how fast water drains through the pavement. The students will also conduct the ASTM C-1701 procedure on three previously placed slabs to demonstrate on how workmanship affects the results. One of the demonstration pavement slabs will be properly poured and placed, the other two demonstration pads will not be placed properly (showing over-compacted concrete and unconsolidated concrete).

Pervious Concrete Construction Details Demonstration

Proper details for outfalls are essential for the proper performance of pervious concrete pavements. As this pavement segment grows, designers and contractors are employing new details to ensure the proper evacuation of surfaces without the clogging of the outfall areas. To highlight some of the best practices for this important detail, members of the National Pervious Concrete Pavement Association will construct several of types of outfalls that have been used successfully around the nation. These examples will be constructed in a 20 x 20 foot area. Some will be constructed prior to the show, but others will be placed during show hours.

Attendees will be able to examine these constructed details and interact with NPCPA members.

Maintenance Procedures for Pervious Concrete Demonstration

With the number of pervious concrete pavements growing each year, contractors will need to learn techniques and product application to help owners properly maintain their investments. Demonstrations are currently planned to include procedures on how to vacuum pavements to help proper infiltration rates and how to repair damaged surfaces that have been exposed to either mechanical damage or sulfate attack from salt.

NRMCA has recently adopted changes to their Pervious Concrete Installer Certification. The NRMCA Pervious Concrete Contractor Certification Summary details the World of Concrete events that are offered through the Educational Program in a way consistent to the new NRMCA guidelines. WOC will be the only one-stop venue at which contractors can get all these benefits.
