The theme of this year’s Concrete Surfaces Concrete Polishing Luncheon is: How Contractors Can Jumpstart Their Polishing Businesses The concrete polishing industry has existed in its current state only for about the last dozen years. However, the industry has suffered growing pains, and some contractors have experienced a drop-off in business, while other have left the industry altogether. This year’s event will give advice to contractor on how they can stimulate their businesses to allow the industry to flourish and how they can better serve their customers. Speakers: Adrian Henry, Vice President of Operations, Diacon Concrete Polishing, Manteca, Calif., will discuss how contractors can develop maintenance programs for their customers once the jobs are complete. Chris Wright, Vice President and co-owner, Durable Surfaces, Concrete Repair, Malvern, Pa., will talk about how to create a niche market for salvaging distressed concrete. Roy Bowman, Owner, Concrete Visions, Tulsa, Okla., will discuss how decorative polished concrete can add to your bottom line. Concrete Infrastructure Repair and Maintenance Luncheon & Forum Wednesday, February 6, 2013 12:00–2:00PM Topic: Saving our infrastructure through innovative concrete repair technologies. With operating budgets at an all-time low, DOT’s, municipalities and public agencies need to create a strong team approach between specifier, contractor and owner for a successful project. The forum will feature presentations from three projects on which this team approach proved successful. Concrete Construction's Quality in Concrete Slabs Luncheon & Forum Thursday, February 7, 2013 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Discuss with your peers and the industry experts how to stay on budget while placing slabs that dry properly. You will learn proven techniques contractors have used to meet a dry floor spec. In this interactive setting, you can pose questions to our experts, including: • Scott Tarr, North S.Tarr Concrete Consulting, Dover, N.H. • Jim Hayes, Contracts and Risk Manager for the Neenan Company, Fort Collins, Colo. • Bill Lepito, Certified Floor Covering Consultants, Amesbury, Mass. • Roland Vierra, Flooring Forensics, San Jose, Calif. • Peter Craig, Concrete Constructives, Greene, Maine Forum participants and the panel will discuss how to minimize exposure to back charges and litigation from this vexing problem. The panel will describe new materials and testing techniques that reveal what is happening in the slab, how dry it actually is, and what slab moisture levels are truly safe for the installation of impermeable flooring. The problems posed by fast-track construction will be discussed and alternative solutions, from moisture mitigation methods to self-desiccating concrete, will be open for discussion. After the session the forum’s conclusions will be hosted on the Concrete Construction website. | |||||||
