CONCRETE FUNDAMENTALS
For the “just getting started” concrete professional who wants a solid foundation of knowledge to build on, or for an “old timer” who wants a refresher or update on new knowledge and technology, the fundamental classes are right on track! NEW to WOC 2012 is the updated Concrete Basics series—new and improved with FOUR focused seminars intended to introduce the basics of good concrete practice to individuals new to the concrete industry. Also NEW this year is a two-part Surveying Basics series with one seminar dedicated to using digital total stations and the second seminar addressing automatic and digital levels. For supplemental reinforcement of the surveying series, be sure to check out the NEW hands-on training opportunities described in the course descriptions.

CONCRETE PRODUCTION
With a more environmentally aware society, we must be up-to-date with the methods and techniques regarding the production end of our industry. Concrete Mix Design is a popular two-part series in this track and partners well with topics such as high-performance concrete and concrete material incompatibility.

CONCRETE REPAIR
It’s a given—concrete cracks, curls and shrinks—and repairs are a part of every concrete structure! Cracks are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to repairing existing concrete structures. The Concrete Repair Four-Part Series teaches the strategies for evaluating and planning, preparing the surface, choosing the best materials and techniques for reinforcement, plus protection and waterproofing systems. Troubleshooting Concrete Cracks and Repairing Concrete Cracks are two favorites for the repair contractor.

DECORATIVE CONCRETE
Decorative Concrete application is a continually growing field within the concrete industry because there are endless possibilities for creating and designing with concrete. Contractors specializing in decorative applications will learn from some of the most experienced and creative minds in the industry presenting information on coloring systems, stamped concrete, acid-staining, concrete countertops, decorative overlays and finishing, plus a multitude of troubleshooting decorative concrete issues in a two-part series.

FLOORS & SLABS 
Most consumers have no idea how many factors go into pouring a concrete foundation—but those same people would complain if their floor wasn’t flat, or if it curled up at the corners or if the height was disproportionate to other parts of the structure. This track focuses on floor flatness, moisture problems, topping slabs, concrete polishing, and how to minimize curling/shrinkage. NEW topics addressing floor issues are WE30 Toppings and Overlays—Getting Them Right the First Time and TH31 Protect Yourself from Poor Slab Designs—Understand Basics of Good Slab Design & Recognize Poor Designs.

MASONRY
The Masonry track is part of the World of Masonry show within World of Concrete that focuses on new technologies and old standards that make up the mortar, brick and stone industry. Masonry Contractors will benefit from sessions addressing grouts in reinforced masonry, troubleshooting cracks and leaky walls, plus codes & standards. All sessions in this track are approved towards the MCAA National Masonry Certification program. NEW this year is a hands-on opportunity to lay out and build a concrete block wall under the supervision of professional masons offering guidance and valuable tips (See Seminar WE35 Building Reinforced Masonry).

RESIDENTIAL CONCRETE
The Residential Concrete track was developed due to growth in the use of concrete in the home. NEW highlighted topics for WOC 2012 include Interior Methods of Water Control and Insulating Concrete Forms: How to Build High-Performance Energy Star® Homes. The residential contractor will also be interested in two NEW 90-minute seminars which focus on residential issues: WE143 How to Read a Soils Report and TH135 Foundation Design for Light-Frame Structures.

 
 null     BUSINESS & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
This track is a must for the business owner and upper management! Expert led sessions on increasing job profits, financial management, sales & marketing, estimating, scheduling, plus leadership & management skills for the construction workplace are being offered. These seminars are most beneficial to company owners, superintendents, foreman and executive personnel directly responsible for the running of the company. 90-Minute seminars that focus on business-related topics are also geared towards advanced upper management personnel and qualify towards the Master Certificate in Business & Project Management.

CERTIFICATES & EXAMS
Various certification training courses and examinations are offered throughout the week of WOC. Certification offerings within the WOC Education Program include: TCA/ACI Tilt-Up Technician/Supervisor, ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher/Technician, ACI Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher/Technician, ACPA Concrete Pump Operator, CFA Foundation Contractor Certification, ICRI Slab Moisture Testing Technician Training and NEW this year, ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification. Pervious Concrete Field Project opportunities that qualify towards the NRMCA Installer Certification are also available.

90-MINUTE SEMINAR TRACKS

The below 90-Minute seminars are primarily for business owners, upper management and supervisors, and focus on the core principles of maintaining and growing a successful concrete/masonry construction company. A wide variety of beneficial courses that qualify for either a Business & Project Management Master Certificate or the 3 hours of elective coursework for any of the other designated master certificates.

GREEN BUILDING
Green is here to stay! Attendees will benefit from staying abreast of how the green movement continues to impact the construction industry—learning more about green building products and practices in order to make the best decisions. With five NEW course offerings, this track covers a variety of green and environmental issues such as sustainable design, insulating concrete forms in the commercial industry, new information on mixture proportions, and dealing with the challenges of green concrete.

There are leaders and there are managers. Both are necessary for a company to be successful and continue to grow. Owners, managers and future managers will find valuable and insightful business applications that can be implemented immediately by attending seminars in this track. With a focus on current economic challenges, seminars in this track will address leading today’s generation, time management & goal setting, evaluating and negotiating contract terms, plus developing leaders and coaches who can motivate today’s construction worker.

SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
Too many accidents and too many fatalities happen on construction sites. This safety track is not only important but essential to the long-term success of every construction company. Anyone responsible for safety issues will benefit from seminars covering trenching and excavation in the concrete industry, rigging and signaling safety, fall protection, mast climbing platform safety and pre-operational safety planning. The OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety for Concrete/Masonry Construction is being offered again this year for WOC attendees.

TECHNICAL UPDATES
This track is made up of the latest trends in technical applications in the concrete and masonry industries. Short and fast-paced, course offerings include Meeting 3rd World Concrete Mix Challenges, Steel Reinforced Concrete—Best Practices, and Avoiding Specification Traps for Contractors, in addition to topics on self-consolidating concrete, managing pavements, diversity of shotcrete and utilizing GPR data.

NEW TO WORLD OF CONCRETE 2012!
This track is the direct result of attendees requesting introductory level sessions that focus on the basic technical applications necessary to be successful in the concrete industry. Introduction to Concrete Parts I and II is the best place to start and then choose from seminars that address how to produce concrete pavements, how to read a soils report and how to produce consistent and finishable concrete. Also NEW for WOC 2012 is the opportunity to demonstrate quality concrete placement and consolidation skills and be recognized as a “WOC Qualified Concrete Placement and Consolidation Worker”see TU141.
