HCSS LAUNCHES MOBILE APPLICATIONS THAT IMPROVE FIELD ENTRY AND PRODUCTIVITY

Contractors can collect field data from
anywhere using smart phones and tablets
SUGAR LAND, TEXAS, May 15, 2012: Construction software developer HCSS (www.hcss.com) has introduced a suite of new mobile applications for collecting and reviewing data on construction field operations. These apps can be run anywhere using iPhones®, iPads® and Android™-based phones and tablets.
By combining the new mobile apps with the HeavyJob® Field Management software from HCSS, foremen and superintendents can typically cut their entry time in half by switching from paper to laptops or mobile devices; the technology will pay for itself on clerical savings alone. Payroll data can also be sent automatically to more than 60 payroll and accounting systems, often eliminating double- and triple-entry of data to save time and reduce errors.
With the new mobile applications, field personnel can now record an entire time card on a mobile tablet, with cost-coded employee and equipment hours as well as production quantities. They can save time by quickly copying information from previous work or selecting from drop-down menus. Contractors can also record daily diary entries and check employee skills instantly with their smart phone or tablet. Additionally, they can transmit photos with notes and store them in the appropriate job folders by simply taking the photograph, typing a quick note and clicking “send.”
Mike Rydin, HCSS president, emphasized that HCSS’s mobile applications address many contractors’ concerns about mobile technology. “Contractors don’t need to have constant, 100 percent Internet connectivity with our mobile apps,” Rydin explained. “These apps were designed to be able to work off-line for the still-frequent places where it is required, and are generally much faster than web-based products, which constantly communicate with the Internet. It is also possible to just use the Wi-Fi mode and avoid expensive cell service charges.”
Rydin also pointed out that, by combining these apps with HeavyJob®, a contractor can mix and match devices in connected and disconnected modes and handle jobs in the most remote places. “Contractors don’t have to pick a single technology,” Rydin said. “They can use HCSS field licenses on various combinations of desktops, laptops, tablets and smart phones, and switch it up at any time to coincide with their changing needs.”
The products received an enthusiastic reception when the prototypes were introduced to more than 800 attendees at the HCSS user’s group meeting in February, and now include features that resulted directly from customer suggestions.
“The HCSS mobile applications are large, solid, construction-oriented apps that have received the ‘seal of approval’ from our most important constituents: construction companies that rely on our products to help them operate their businesses,” said Rydin.
