Quality in Slabs Luncheon & Forum

Topic: Success with Joint-Free/Curl-Free Slabs and Pavement

The Quality in Slab Luncheon and Forum is an industry networking event and idea exchange. The setting, topic selection and presentations are designed to provide a unique opportunity to share concerns and opportunities on current topics affecting the concrete flatwork Industry.

For industrial slabs and concrete pavement, joints are the biggest problem area--breaking down, losing stability, and creating forklift maintenance problems indoors and allowing water infiltration outside. Recently, some techniques have been developed to stretch out the distance between joints using fibers, low-water mixes, shrinkage-compensating cement, and “special sauce.” These techniques can also reduce or eliminate curling. Panelists at the luncheon will provide background on how to produce these floors and discuss how this new technology can benefit contractors, designers, and owners. For exterior pavement, these techniques are also being used as well as much shorter joint spacing to eliminate curling.
