WE127 - How to Design Steel Anchors in Concrete

NEW FOR 2014  In this new seminar for engineers, architects and designers, you’ll learn how to design cast-in and post-installed steel anchors in accordance with Chapter 16 of the ACI 318-14 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete – formally Appendix D. Cast-in anchors include headed bolts, hooked bolts (J- or L-bolt), and headed studs. Post-installed anchors include expansion anchors, undercut anchors, and adhesive anchors.  You’ll hear about different failure modes and design requirements to transmit structural loads by means of tension, shear, or a combination of tension and shear and the special requirements for adhesive socketed anchors.

  1. Explain the different anchor failure modes including steel, concrete breakout, pullout, side-face blowout, and pryout
  2. Use Chapter 16 of the ACI 318-14 Structural Building Code formerly Appendix D
  3. Design cast-in and post-installed steel anchors for a single anchor or a group of anchors
  4. Ensure your steel anchor design satisfies the code requirements for strength, stability and life safety
  5. Analyze special inspection requirements for adhesive anchors
