There are many opinions floating around as to the benefits, or lack thereof, of reinforcement in slabs on ground. Not all reinforcement works in the same way. To be able to understand the potential benefits and negatives of any particular reinforcement system, one has to understand how that system theoretically works and also what happens in the real world. The purpose of this seminar is to discuss some of these reinforcement systems, plus what they will and will not do. Systems discussed will include steel reinforcing bars and welded wire reinforcement, steel fibers, traditional and macro polymeric fibers, post-tensioning tendons, shrinkage-compensating concrete reinforcement, and strategic reinforcement.
- Differentiate the potential benefits and negatives of many traditional and new reinforcement systems
- Summarize how each system theoretically works compared to actual applications
- Examine what these reinforcement systems will and will not do
- Avoid potential pitfalls and optimize the cost and performance of each system
